I am so happy that I was able to harvest the Skullcap growing next to my front walkway last week, because a very hungry deer decided to make it his lunch a few days ago
Skullcap is one of my favorite herbs.
It is a nerve relaxant sedative, antispasmodic, nerve tonic and bitter. It has been used for hundreds of years to treat a variety of issues.
The antispasmodic properties of Skullcap make it a great choice for cramping, muscle tension, sciatic and back pain. It is also a great herb to include in forrmulations to address migraines.
It's nervine action is that of a nerve relaxant making Skullcap a very powerful herb to help those experiencing insomnia and anxiety. It is also used to relax the nervous system for those who suffere from seizures and/or alcohol & drug withdrawl.
At the very least, it is an excellent choice for those who just want to feel relaxed and at ease. It combines well with Valerian, California Poppy, Chammomile, Lavender...to make an excellent cup of tea before bed.
The dosages of Skullcap would depend on what you are intending to use it for...it can be used as an acute herbal medicine or as a nerve tonic to help with an ongoing issue.
I made a tincture of Fresh Skullcap as soon as I harvested it. I used 1 part fresh herb (all aerial parts of Skullcap are medicinal) and 1 part Vodka.
If you're interested in trying Skullcap yourself, we sell a Fresh Skullcap tincture just like the one I made here at Asunder Wellness: https://www.asunderwellness.com/product-page/organic-fresh-skullcap
